Joker 2, Madness for Two director of photography Larry Sher has revealed that Lady Gaga did not want to be called by her stage name or her birth name during the filming of the film in which she plays Harley Quinn.
The iconic Lady Gaga has been immersed in the filming of her new film 'Joker 2: Madness for Two', the sequel to the famous Gotham villain played by Joaquin Phoenix where she plays Harley Quinn, whose filming has ended and which is scheduled to be released on October 4, 2024.
Recently, the pop star shared a letter with her followers opening up about the different reasons that have made her absent from social networks, in which she made reference to her preparation for the film and indicated that the months of filming were "a very introspective time" for her. However, it seems that taking time for herself and getting away from social networks were not the only steps the actress took to engage with her character during the filming of the film.
The director of photography of 'Joker 2: Folie à Deux', Larry Sher, has revealed during an interview for The Trenches TV that the actress did not want to use her stage name, Lady Gaga, nor her birth name, Stefani Germanotta, during filming.
"I feel like I never met her, even during the make-up test," the director confessed. "And then I remember for a week I was like, 'God, I feel like we were disconnecting, not even connecting. We're like opposites.'
"I told my team, 'Jesus, I can't figure it out. I feel like she hates me or we hate each other or something weird is going on here,'" Sher said, referring to Gaga as Stefani until then. That's when a teammate advised her, "Oh, you know what? Stef would like you to call her Lee on set."
Later, when Larry began referring to her as Lee "it was like everything changed." "From that moment on it was like our whole connection changed," Sher said.
At the moment, we don't know where Lee's name comes from, but it could be a nickname for her character in the film, Harley Quinn.
