After her appearance at the Golden Globes, the singer and actress received harsh comments on the networks about her physique
Selena Gomez, a longtime advocate of body positivity, sent a message to those who still weigh in on someone else's body.
After walking the red carpet at the 2023 Golden Globes. Selena appeared more on Instagram Live with her companion at the awards show, her little sister Gracie Elliot Teefey, and opened up about the comments she received about her body during the awards gala.
“I'm a little beefier right now because I had fun on vacation,” the actress-singer said, as seen in a video shared on TikTok, before asking her sister, “Right?” Gracie replied, "Yes" and Selena started laughing.
The “Only Murders in the Building” star, who wore a Valentino gown, was nominated for her first Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy for her role as Mabel Mora on the hit Hulu show, starring Steve Martin and Martin Shorts.
The star has spoken out several times against body shamers before. In April 2022, she again spoke out about being judged for her appearance. “I honestly don't care about my weight because people always have something to say anyway,” she expressed.
To her critics, she told them: “I am perfect just the way I am. The moral of the story? Bye-bye".
The singer assured them that she will not let anyone else think about her body. In addition, those who have known and followed her for years will remember that in an interview she clarified that her weight is very changeable due to the medication she takes for her diagnosis of lupus.
Among her latest projects to premiere on Apple+, “My Mind & Me”, a documentary directed by Alek Keshishian, exposed many aspects of her life that were unknown and had been kept private.
Gomez asked the director to record all aspects of her life, even if they were critical moments.
After the premiere of "My Mind & Me", the singer not only spoke about how difficult it was for her to bring this work to light but also revealed some of the processes she went through during the years in which it was recorded.
Gomez recounted that she has been to four rehab centers and that her emotional ups and downs could last for weeks or months, but she couldn't pinpoint what triggered them.
“I think around my 20th birthday when I started to feel like I wasn't in control of what I was feeling, whether it was really good or really bad,” the singer told Rolling Stone magazine.
She said that at first, she began to feel depressed, then she continued to isolate herself. “I couldn't move from my bed. I didn't want anyone to talk to me. My friends brought me food because they loved me, but none of us knew what it was. Sometimes I would spend weeks in bed, to the point that even walking down the stairs would take my breath away,” she added.
Gomez did not try to end her life, it was an idea that she used to think about frequently since she experienced sensations that "told" her that everything would be better if she were not there. In 2018 she had a strong episode of psychosis that led her to a treatment center, where after several months she received a diagnosis of bipolarity.
