Drew Barrymore told about her relationship with her mother

Actress Drew Barrymore confessed that she "can't wait" for her mother, Jaid Barrymore, to die. The host opened up about her tumultuous childhood with her mother and said that she is jealous of friends who have already lost their parents.

“All her moms have left, and my mom hasn't. And I say 'Well, I don't have that luxury'. But I can't wait," Barrymore said in a recent interview.

“I don't want to live in a state where I wish someone would leave sooner than they should so I can grow. In fact, I want you to be happy, prosperous, and healthy. But I have to grow up knowing that he is on this planet," added the actress.

The “Drew Barrymore Show” host later regretted her comments in the interview. "I dared to say it and it didn't feel good," she lamented.

The 48-year-old actress has been open in the past about growing up with Jaid, who acted as her manager and took her to Hollywood parties and the Studio 54 nightclub when she was just a child. At 12, Drew had already been through drug and alcohol rehab, and at 13 her mother put her in a psychiatric ward in California.

“I think she created a monster and she didn't know what to do with the monster,” she told Howard Stern in a 2021 interview. A year later, when she was just 14, she emancipated herself from her parents.

While Ella Drew was able to forgive her father, John David Barrymore, before he died in 2004, she never fully reconciled with her mother.

“I choose very consciously not to see my life as things that have been made for me. I want to see it as the things that I did and chose to do. I am not attracted to people who blame others. I don't find it," Barrymore added.

The actress, who shares two daughters with her ex-husband Will Kopelman, previously shed light on her and Jaid's position, saying that he "will always have her back" in an interview in December.

“I cannot turn my back on the person who gave me life. I can not do it. It hurts me so much. I would find it so cruel. But there are times when I've realized that our chemistry and our behavior will create a feeling in me where I have to say, 'Okay, I need a break again,'" she explained at the time.
