The scene that made Emma Stone cry for hours after filming

In 2018, the Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos released one of her latest films, The Favorite, a period drama that was mixed with some comedy aspects. The plot revolves around the dramas that take place within the court of Queen Anne of Great Britain during the 18th century. With England at war with France, the queen leaves all responsibilities for her in the hands of her faithful friend, Lady Sarah, but when a servant arrives to displace her, the clashes begin to be the queen's favorite.

The film was highly praised by critics, who highlighted the performances of its leads: Olivia Colman, Emma Stone, and Rachel Weisz. In turn, the script, Lanthimos's direction, and production design earned him rave reviews. So much so, that she ended up getting 9 Oscar Award nominations, of which she only got Best Actress for Olivia Colman.

In The Favourite, Emma Stone was commissioned to play Abigail, the newly arrived aide who begins to rapidly climb the court to become one of the queen's main confidantes. There, her competition with Sarah makes her reach extreme points, from which she ends up winning (and losing).

The actress was highly praised for her work and even received an Academy Award nomination alongside Rachel Weisz. In addition, she revealed how her experience was when making the film, and for the most part, she revealed that she had a great time. “My role in The Favourite is more of an observer than a conversationalist and I loved that. I didn't understand at first what was expected of me, but as we worked on it, I was able to understand the character and how to play him.

However, Emma Stone also revealed that there was a scene that made her feel very bad, to the point that, after filming it, she cried for hours. It was one of the last scenes of the film, where Abigail, having already displaced Sarah from her position, enjoys the benefits of being the queen's favorite. "In the end, I don't want to spoil anything but I have to be a bit aggressive with a rabbit, and I ended up crying for hours," revealed the actress.

At that moment, Abigail is sitting in a chair reading a book when she sees one of the queen's rabbits walking across the floor. Deliberately, she places her shoe on the rabbit and begins to squash it, then lets it escape at the last moment, showing her inner cruelty and letting the queen know the true essence of her.

In real life, Emma Stone is a great lover of animals, and having to pretend to hurt one affected her greatly. “I had been told more or less that it was going to be something smooth and correct, but it is very disturbing. The idea of hurting an animal in any way destroys me," confessed Emma, who made sure the rabbit was not harmed in any way during filming.
