Angelina Jolie has unveiled the motivations behind her departure from the world of cinema.
The renowned actress, who has been fully dedicated to her sustainable clothing brand, candidly confessed that her decision to step away from the film industry stemmed from her need to prioritize her well-being, particularly in the aftermath of her divorce from Brad Pitt. While she did continue to work in recent years, it was primarily in shorter or independent productions.
Angelina Jolie's presence in the realm of cinema is undeniable. With her fair share of adoration and criticism, an Oscar to her name, and a face recognized worldwide, she currently finds herself distanced from the industry. She took it upon herself to elucidate the reasons for this conspicuous departure.
During a conversation with Vogue, she disclosed that her withdrawal was a direct response to the profound impact her highly publicized divorce from Brad Pitt had on her mental health, an ongoing struggle she continues to confront today.
"I am still undergoing a personal transition. I haven't truly been myself for a decade, although I prefer not to delve into specifics," she shared.
Although she didn't entirely disengage from cinema during this period, her involvement was predominantly restricted to projects with shorter shooting schedules or those within the realm of independent filmmaking, allowing her to maintain a lower profile in the media spotlight.
"She only accepted roles that didn't demand extended commitments. There were many wounds to heal. I am still in the process of finding my equilibrium," she revealed.
At present, Angelina Jolie has turned her attention to Atelier Jolie, a sustainable fashion brand she recently launched. Despite her inclination to avoid interviews, she chose to speak to Vogue about her latest endeavor.
"In some ways, this has been a form of therapy for me: working within a creative space alongside people I trust and rediscovering myself. I am aspiring to make substantial changes in my life, and this venture allows me to look forward," she acknowledged.
Angelina Jolie's affinity for fashion traces back to her youth when she embarked on a modeling career during her teenage years. For her, clothing serves as a means to convey a personal message, and it was through her attire that she unearthed her inner strength and healing power.
"After experiencing a painful period, a therapist suggested I try wearing loose dresses. It might sound trivial, but I believed that wearing pants and boots made me appear more resilient and robust. But was I capable of embracing vulnerability? Back then, the answer was no. I felt exposed at that time, and now I ponder whether I'm still exploring my style because, at 48, I'm still discovering who I am," she reflected.
