Dakota Johnson gave the presentation on the first day of the Sundance Festival to present an honorary award to director Luca Guadagnino. But before giving him the mention he did not hesitate to joke with the audience about Armie Hammer.
Yesterday the first day of the Sundance Film Festival took place, which will take place throughout the week until January 29. Throughout this, some films expected by the public are expected to have their premiere. In addition, some stars and directors will be honored, as was the case with Luca Guadagnino.
On Thursday night, the “A Taste of Sundance” party was held, where the director received the International Icon Award for his work and contribution to the film industry. There, to present him with that distinction, was Dakota Johnson, the protagonist of Fifty Shades of Grey.
The actress took the stage to introduce the director with whom she worked twice: in 2015 she starred in Blinded by the Sun, where she shared a cast with actors such as Tilda Swinton and Ralph Fiennes, while in 2018 she led the remake of Suspiria, the horror classic by Dario Argento, where he worked again with Swinton and Mia Goth.
“It was here at Sundance in 2017 that audiences experienced a film that is characterized by Luca's unique and iconic approach to storytelling,” the actress began about Call Me by Your Name, the film starring Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer.
“Unfortunately I wasn't in that one,” Dakota joked. “It was a shame because Luca had asked me to play the peach but there was a conflict of agendas,” she added as the audience laughed. “Thank God because otherwise she would have been another woman that Armie Hammer tried to eat,” she joked, leaving the entire audience surprised.
It should be remembered that a couple of years ago, Armie Hammer had to face several accusations from different women, who accused him of violence and abuse, as well as having cannibalistic fetishes. After these complaints, the actor's career was severely affected and he had to withdraw from the public scene.
“It's been five years since that movie premiered here and Luca hasn't stopped taking us to exciting places,” Dakota continued. “Who knew cannibalism was so popular?” she added, this time, about Guadagnino's most recent work, Bones and All, also starring Chalamet, and which follows a couple of cannibals along a road trip.
Before finally giving the director the award, Dakota Johnson praised his work and congratulated him for his talent and his love for cinema and fashion, also jokingly adding: “In my mind, and I think in yours too, Luca Guadagnino is the definition of an International Icon. “He wears Prada all the time,” she concluded with a laugh before proceeding to give the filmmaker the award.
Of course, of all his speeches, his comments and jokes about the whole Armie Hammer situation were the ones that stood out the most. The actress and future protagonist of Madame Web became a trend on social networks, and while many people congratulated her and took the moment as funny, others questioned the situation and expressed her discontent. Even so, for those attending the event, the situation seemed very funny because it took a while for the public to return to silence after that joke.
