Liam Neeson was looking forward to the arrival of a missionary, stating that he ended up leaving him with one of the biggest traumas of his life.
Before becoming the popular Hollywood actor he is today, Liam Neeson almost became a priest in his native Ireland.
From a very Catholic family, when he was a child he used to work as an altar boy in the local church that he attended every week. In these practices, the protagonist of Relentless Search found a vocation that over time was cut short.
Perhaps one of the reasons that made him decide to live a life without habits was the episode he told Hollywood presenter Conan O'Brien on his podcast Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend. It was resolved that Liam Neeson became happy and anxious when it was announced that a new priest would come to the city and especially to his church since it was a great event for the entire congregation.
That is why he was eagerly awaiting the arrival of an African missionary who had been announced weeks ago. “It was a great event when a missionary from Africa visited you. He stayed there for a week and you went to mass every night” explained the Irish interpreter.
“And as an altar boy, I served at mass, but hearing his confession was like a big event,” Liam Neeson continued to explain. Finally, it was time to confess to the new missionary.
At first, as the artist explained to Conan O'Brien on his podcast, he began by recounting small incidents such as fights with his sister or disputes with his mother. However, the young man wanted to get to a bigger concern and was looking for the ideal moment.
What was happening is that 15-year-old Liam Neeson was beginning to discover masturbation. “So we started, and I had learned to pleasure myself at home, in the sheets, right? He had searched for the right word. I remember... 'Masturbate'? 'Masturbation'? Yes. It seems quite harmless,” the Irishman explained, referring to how he sought to tell him.
Unfortunately, the reaction of the missionary who was receiving the Hollywood actor's confession was not what he expected: “What about you?!” He shouted loudly and it echoed throughout the room, Liam said.
“This guy was literally almost saying things like, ‘Grass will grow out of the palm of your hand before you’re 21! Stop that evil practice,’” he continued to explain. The Oscar nominee ran out of there and ended up confessing on the podcast that he never confessed again after that incident.
