Andrew Dominik said that when shooting the film he only thought of an open-minded and unprejudiced audience, so as not to limit himself when telling the story of Marilyn Monroe.

Along these lines, director Andrew Dominik announced that Blonde will offend many viewers who will sit down to watch the film expecting the idyllic story of the young blonde who dreamed of being a star and who became one of the biggest.
With an NC-17 rating, the director assured that, at the time of filming, he only took into account an open-minded and unprejudiced audience.
“It is dangerous to think for other people. If given the choice, I'd rather go see the NC-17 version of the Marilyn Monroe story. Because we know that her life was on the edge, clearly, because of the way it ended. Do you want to see the version warts and all or do you want to see the sanitized version?” he said.
One of the few to see the film was Pedro Almodóvar who praised the work of Ana de Armas, the film's protagonist. “She plays Marilyn in a chillingly real way. I have recorded a sequence (if it does not disappear from the final cut) of the harassment, something more, I would say, that he suffered at the hands of President JFK. "The sequence is explicit enough to feel Marilyn's own repulsion at such a moment," he said.
Together with the director from La Mancha, Joyce Carol Oates, writer of the book of the same name on which the film is based, she saw Andrew Dominik's creation, which she described as "brilliant and very disturbing."
“It is a film that has a moral, it is clear. But it moves into ambiguous territory because I don't think it makes everything as clear as people would like. There are things in it to offend everyone,” the director concluded about the production that is expected to arrive on Netflix at some point this year.
