Actress Angelina Jolie had to stop directing films to face raising her six children alone after her separation from Brad Pitt. “I had a change in my family dynamic,” she admits.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt continued a long divorce process since they both confirmed their separation in 2016. Recently, the Hollywood actress has spoken about how the breakup with her husband not only broke up family life but also got in the way of his professional career.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the protagonist of “Maleficent” confessed that she has not been able to dedicate herself to directing in recent years due to the need to be present for her family at home. “I love directing, but I had a change in my family dynamic that didn't allow me to do it for a few years,” she says.
At the moment, Angelina Jolie is unable to accept work activities that require a lot of time and, therefore, she has had to put her dream of becoming a recognized director on hold. As a mother of six children, the separation from actor Brad Pitt left most of the family duties in her hands.
“I needed to do shorter jobs and be home more, so I went back to doing some acting work. That's really the truth,” the Oscar winner admitted, adding that parenting, in her case, is very difficult: “I feel like I lack all the skills to be a traditional stay-at-home mom.”
Angelina Jolie has put aside her role as a filmmaker a bit, but she remains active in acting in films, the most recent in which she has participated in “Those Who Wish Me Dead”, which will be released simultaneously for HBO Max and in theaters on May 14. This specific role was very hard for her because she plays a woman who is not very motherly.
The separation of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
In September 2016, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt announced their separation after being together for 12 years. The motives? They indicated that there were “irreconcilable differences,” and one of these would be the complaint filed against the actor for physical abuse against his eldest son, Maddox.
The divorce has not yet been finalized, but legally both movie stars have been considered single since 2019. For that reason, the custody of their six children led them to face each other again in court. Maddox (19), Pax (17), Zahara (16), John (14), and twins Knox and Vivienne, 12, currently live with their mother.
