Ben Affleck revealed that why he regrets his divorce from Jennifer Garner

This week, Ben Affleck once again opened up about the hardships he's encountered in recent years. During this interview, he openly admitted that the most profound regret of his life is the dissolution of his marriage to Jennifer Garner.

Affleck emphasized the detrimental impact of shame, stating, "Shame is toxic. It yields no positive outcomes, only festering in a noxious blend of low self-esteem and self-loathing." He shared these sentiments in a conversation with The New York Times this Tuesday, underscoring, "The most significant regret in my life is this divorce."

The renowned actor also offered unvarnished honesty regarding his struggles with alcohol, acknowledging, "I consumed alcohol quite moderately for many years. However, my drinking escalated as my marriage crumbled, particularly around 2015 and 2016. Regrettably, my alcoholism exacerbated the marital issues."

It's worth noting that Affleck's personal difficulties coincided with his involvement in the film "Batman v Superman," where he portrayed the Dark Knight for the first time on the big screen. The movie faced substantial criticism from reviewers, and Affleck himself became the subject of a widely circulated meme following an interview where he appeared to evade a question about the film's critical reception, alongside his co-star Henry Cavill.

These setbacks, coupled with the turmoil of his divorce, his struggles with alcohol, and the challenges associated with the production and promotion of "Justice League," where he reprised his role as Bruce Wayne, led Affleck to reevaluate his commitment to Warner Bros. He had initially agreed to direct a standalone Batman movie with himself in the lead role. According to Affleck, a trusted individual's counsel struck a chord with him: "I shared the Batman script with someone, and they told me, 'The script looks promising, but I also fear you'll succumb to self-destructive habits if you dive back into what you just experienced.'"

Affleck shared an insightful perspective, stating, "It's not particularly beneficial for me to dwell on failures and setbacks, berating myself over past mistakes. I've undoubtedly made errors and have actions I regret. Nevertheless, I must rise, learn from my experiences, gain insights, and strive to move forward."

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's marriage unraveled in 2015, and they finalized their divorce in 2018 after 13 years of matrimony and the raising of three children: Violet, aged 14; Seraphina, aged 11; and Samuel, aged 7.
