The American actor could not attend the 2020 Bafta Awards, where he was awarded Best Supporting Actor, but he sent a message of gratitude, and more than one joke, through Margot Robbie.
Brad Pitt has been achieving more than one recognition thanks to his role as Cliff Booth, the stuntman he plays in “Once Upon a Time In Hollywood”, Quentin Tarantino's latest film in which he shares roles with Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie.
Nominated for the 2020 Oscars for Best Supporting Actor, the American actor added a new award by winning in the same category during the 2020 Bafta Awards. Although he could not attend the ceremony, his colleague Margot Robbie collected his award and read the message that the interpreter had handed him over.
“Brad couldn't be here tonight due to family obligations, so he asked me to read this response for him,” the actress said as she took the stage. “Hey, UK, I heard you guys just got single. Welcome to the club! ”She then noted, alluding to the country's departure from the European Union.
After thanking more than one person who made this achievement possible, Robbie closed Pitt's speech with one last joke about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's resignation from the British crown and their move to North America. “He [Brad Pitt] says he's going to name [his award] Harry because he's very excited to take it back to the United States with him,” she said, laughing.
Among the audience at the gala, which took place at the Royal Albert Hall in London, were Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton.
BAFTA 2020 WINNERS
The 2020 Bafta Awards opened the way for “1917” as one of the possible candidates to obtain the Best Film award at the 2020 Oscars. The film directed by Sam Mendes took six awards at the English ceremony, including Best Film and Best Director.
Joaquín Phoenix and Renée Zellweger continued their streak in the awards race, winning Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively. In this way, both actors are the safest alternatives to win in the same category of the ceremony organized by the Academy.
On the other hand, Laura Dern is another of the actresses almost certain to win the award for Best Supporting Actress, due to her role in “Marriage Story”, the Netflix film. The film and television star took home the award for Best Supporting Actress at the 2020 Baftas.
"Klaus", another of the productions under the Netflix label, won the award for Best Animated Film at the English awards and is another of the favorite films to win in this same category at the 2020 Oscars.
The so-called British Oscars considered “Retablo”, by Álvaro Delgado Aparicio, among the nominees for Best Debut of a Film by an English Screenwriter, Director or Producer. However, the Peruvian film did not win the award, because “Bait” was selected as the winner of the award.
