Regrets and Redemption, Robert De Niro's Take on 'Righteous Kill

Movies like "The Irishman," "The Godfather Part II," and "Heat" stand as testaments to their remarkable careers. However, even in a repertoire as illustrious as theirs, there is one film that Robert De Niro regrets being a part of.

The film in question is "Righteous Kill," known as "Face to Face" in certain regions. Directed by Jon Avnet, it was released in September 2008 and is a notable exception in De Niro's filmography with Pacino. This film failed to live up to the expectations of both its esteemed leads, as well as the anticipation of critics and audiences.

In an interview, De Niro expressed his feelings of regret regarding "Righteous Kill." He recalled an occasion during the film's premiere in Rome when he felt a sense of guilt as he and Pacino met eager fans who had eagerly awaited their joint venture on the silver screen.

De Niro reflected on a promise he had made to his devoted followers, saying, "I said: 'This is a great reaction, but it would be good if you were here for a feature film that we are really proud of. Next time we will do one we like.'"

"Righteous Kill" is an action thriller featuring the two iconic actors as a pair of New York City police detectives embarking on a perilous mission to apprehend a serial killer. While the premise seemed promising for fans of the genre, the film fell short of expectations, facing criticism from the press. Despite this, it managed to achieve a box office profit of $78.4 million, surpassing its $60 million investment.
