Arnold Schwarzenegger has an impressive career in different fields ranging from film and bodybuilding to politics.
And recently a preview of a sensitive topic that he talked about in the documentary titled 'Arnold' on Netflix was leaked: how he told her wife that he had been unfaithful to her and that he had had a child with her.
In the long-awaited docuseries he touches on various topics such as his greatest hits such as Terminator or his political career as Governor of California. But this one that he also decided to talk about was practically a taboo in his life, which is why his fans could not believe that these revealing details of that difficult moment that he and his entire family went through came to light.
The actor met Maria Shriver Shutterstock in 1977 and they married in 1985. As a result of their love, their four children were born: Katherine, 33, Christina, 31, Patrick, 29, and Christopher, 25. The big problem for him came in 1996, when Mildred Baena started working as a domestic worker. She was married and soon it was learned that she was expecting a son, Joseph, although it was always believed, at least publicly, that the child was the son of Rogelio, this woman's husband.
By then, Arnold had already been unfaithful to his wife with Mildred and as the years passed he began to notice an unmistakable resemblance to himself. It was not until 2011 that the news came to light even though Joseph had been born in 1997. The outbreak that this event caused was tremendous, but both the politician and Maria continued together until 2021.
Arnold reveals how he told Maria that he had another child out of wedlock
“Maria and I went to therapy once a week. In one of the sessions the counselor said: 'I think today Maria wants to be very specific about something. She wants to know if you are José's father.' I thought her heart had stopped, and then I told the truth. 'Yes, Mary, Joseph is my son.' She was devastated by that,” he reveals in the docuseries that will premiere this Wednesday, June 7.
In the documentary, Schwarzenneger himself stated that it was very difficult to keep everything a secret, especially because the resemblance to Joseph could not be disguised.
Furthermore, he added that he had “an affair in '96. At first he didn't know it. The older he got, the clearer it became, and then I wondered how I could keep it a secret. How to keep it a secret?” He even confessed that every time he touches on this topic he feels that “the wounds open again.”
Then, Mildred, the maid, separated from Rogelio. At that time, Arnold himself took the initiative to financially support the mother of his son and the young man: he bought them a house in California in 2010 and made sure that they did not lack anything. But for him, the thorn is very big and he defines that fact as his “greatest failure.”
“I'm going to have to live with it for the rest of my life. People will remember my successes and also my failures. This is a big failure. I have had failures in the past in my career, but this is a totally different ball game,” he adds.
On the other hand, he acknowledged: “What I did was wrong. But I don't want to make Joseph feel like he's not welcome in this world, because he's very welcome in this world. I love him and he has become an extraordinary young man.” Some reports have published that although Arnold and Joseph have a good relationship, the same is not true of the rest of the actor's children, who did not receive his stepbrother well.
