Gwyneth Paltrow, the Oscar-winning actress turned businesswoman, has been absent from film sets for the past four years, dedicating her efforts to her home products brand, Goop.
Paltrow, honored at the 2023 CFDA Fashion Awards gala, confessed that her commitment to Goop has made it challenging for her to consider returning to acting, but there is one exception: Robert Downey Jr.
While acknowledging the difficulty of resuming acting due to her current responsibilities, Paltrow admitted, "But, I guess Robert Downey Jr. could probably always get me back. You know, to a certain extent." The two actors share a close friendship, having developed a bond since their first meeting on the set of the first Iron Man film in 2009. Paltrow described their relationship as inspiring and lifelong.
The camaraderie between Paltrow and Robert is evident, with Paltrow sharing in a recent interview that after more than a decade of collaboration, she considers him a friend for life. Despite having played romantic scenes together, Paltrow emphasized the brotherly nature of their connection, confessing that on-screen kisses were "the worst moments of her career" as it felt like "kissing a brother."
In 2019, Paltrow's last appearance on the big screen was in Avengers: Endgame, concluding the story of Iron Man and other Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She also took a hiatus from television after her 2019 project, The Politician. While Paltrow had previously expressed a waning interest in acting, her passion for her business venture, Goop, continues to thrive.
Reflecting on her journey with Goop, Paltrow expressed surprise at the magnitude it has achieved. Initially unaware of its potential, she noted the brand's year-over-year growth and emphasized the hard work and perseverance that have fueled its success. While not completely closing the door on acting, Paltrow acknowledged that her passion for it has diminished over time. Despite her illustrious film career, including an Oscar win in 1999 for Shakespeare in Love, Paltrow has found fulfillment in her entrepreneurial endeavors.
