Matthew Perry was in love with Jennifer Aniston, but she rejected him

Matthew Perry revealed that he was in love with Jennifer Aniston before and during her participation in Friends, but was rejected due to her "lack of interest." Chandler Bing star, who starred alongside the actress on the iconic series, detailed in an excerpt from his memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, that he was "immediately struck" by the star during their first meeting.

The actor said he called Jennifer before they started filming the production in an attempt to impress her with two roles he had booked, but she allegedly ignored him.

"It's clear that this made him think I liked him too much, or in the wrong way," the actor described. She then asked him to go out with him, to which she suggested that they remain friends. At that point, Perry responded, "We can't be friends."

The two actors met for their first table read in 1994. Of the meeting, Matthew wrote: "We were able to put the past behind us and focus on the fact that we had both landed the best work Hollywood had to offer."

The interpreter noted that he continued to feel attracted to Jennifer while they were filming the series and that he "regularly overanalyzed" every conversation they had, but that little by little he got over her due to the star's "deafening lack of interest."

The actor indicated that her love for Jennifer ended when she began a relationship with her future husband, Brad Pitt, in 1998, and that he was able to have conversations with her "without them being awkward."

Perry's revelation comes after Aniston and her co-star David Schwimmer confessed that they fell in love with each other when they began filming the series.

Matthew Perry underwent emergency surgery days before 'Friends' reunion

Matthew Perry revealed that he had to undergo emergency dental surgery days before filming the Friends reunion last April. “They did all kinds of things,” the 53-year-old actor told Diane Sawyer during an interview that aired Friday on ABC's Nightline, adding that the procedure “made his mouth feel like fire.”

At the time, Perry's slurred speech and distracted look left fans concerned for his well-being. “It seemed like my voice was off,” he acknowledged, but he knew that “it couldn't not appear.”

“So what I chose to do was go and do the best I could,” he told the interviewer, who noted the “wear and tear in his voice and speech.”

Matthew Perry recently revealed that he has been clean of all substances for the past 18 months, meaning he was sober again when the long-awaited reunion aired in May 2021.
