The most famous companion of the rock icon revealed the reason that led her to be in a relationship for 20 years with the father of her son without going through the altar.
Priscilla Presley met Elvis Presley in 1959 in West Germany where the singer had been deployed by the United States Army. There, the young woman's godfather was part of the Air Force, which caused them to end up crossing paths.
At that time she was only 14 years old and he was 24 and it was Currie Grant, a mutual friend of hers, who invited her to join a meeting at the musician's house. According to the mother of the deceased Lisa Marie, when the Heartbreak Hotel singer saw her, she exclaimed “you're just a kid.”
“Something in her Southern upbringing had instilled in her that the ‘right’ girl should be reserved for marriage. I was that girl,” explained Priscilla Presley in relation to Elvis, which ended up making her her best-known partner.
Since then, they began a relationship that ended with them getting married on May 1, 1967. Finally, it was in 1973 when they decided to divorce, something that strongly affected the musician who ended up dying four years later.
For her part, Priscilla Presley never remarried another man and in a recent interview she revealed the reason why she took this position, even having had long and formal relationships. “I don't think he would have been able to handle it. To be honest with you, she never wanted to marry me after being married to him. “I never wanted it,” she explained to People magazine, adding that “no one can match it.”
“At the same time, he molded me to become his woman. She wore the clothes, hair and makeup that he carefully chose for me,” reflected Priscilla Presley, pointing out that because of this she could not have been another man's wife.
However, Elvis Presley's ex was in a relationship for more than 20 years with the director and screenwriter Marco Garibaldi with whom she even had a son, Navarone Garibaldi, but the truth is that they never married.
Sadly, the only child Priscilla Presley had with Elvis was Lisa Marie Presley, who tragically passed away in January of this year, aged 54.
