Alison Brie, renowned for her role in 'Community,' has candidly shared her least favorable casting experience amid the promotion of her new Netflix series, 'Glow,' set in the 80s.
The actress opened up about the persisting inequalities between men and women in the industry, emphasizing that little has changed since the 80s.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Brie disclosed a distressing encounter from the early days of her career when auditioning for a minor role in an episode of 'Entourage.' The casting demanded she appear in a bik-ni or extremely short shorts.
As the audition progressed, Brie revealed, "They said 'Okay. Now can you take off your shirt?'" recounting the discomfort she faced during the process.
Expressing her frustration, Brie pointed out the insufficient availability of compelling roles for actresses, both in television and film. She highlighted the challenges she encountered, stating, "I've been through auditions for Marvel movies and done a million tests for roles with three lines that are being begged for."
Following her candid revelation, Brie took to social media to clarify that she did not have to undress entirely during her 'Entourage' audition, as she was wearing a bik-ni under her shirt. In a tweet, she added a touch of irony, stating, "I'm sorry if I've disappointed you."
The incident sheds light on ongoing issues within the industry and prompts a necessary conversation about gender equality and fair treatment in casting processes.
