Elizabeth II gives her royal consent to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

That Elizabeth II approves the wedding between Meghan Markle and Prince Harry has been a reality for months. But it is a firmer reality after this Thursday the Queen of England gave her official blessing to the couple of the moment with a royal letter.

"My Lords, I declare My Consent to a Contract of Marriage between My Most Affectionately Beloved Grandson Prince Henry Charles Albert David of Wales and Rachel Meghan Markle," reads the letter published this Thursday from Buckingham Palace.

The queen is required to give consent to marry the six members of the British royal house who are in the direct line of succession. That includes Harry in fifth place, above only Andrew, Duke of York.

Despite the formality of the letter, Elizabeth II does give in somewhat to the affection she owes to Harry, but she says little about Markle, to whom she will probably dedicate better words in the printed royal letter that will be revealed when the wedding date approaches.

In which the Queen of England wrote for the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton received her due sweetened attention: "Our Most Affectionately Beloved Grandson Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales, K.G., and Our Trustworthy and Dearly Beloved Catherine Elizabeth Middleton."
