Prince Harry demanding his safety and that of Meghan and her children

Prince Harry is facing significant challenges when it comes to returning to his homeland, particularly with his family.

The primary obstacle lies in the fact that he is not permitted to personally cover the expenses for his security, and the government is unwilling to provide him with security personnel. Consequently, Prince Harry has taken legal action to address this issue, filing a lawsuit to secure his and Meghan's safety, along with that of their children.

Beyond a mere legal dispute, this situation appears to be a consequence of Prince Harry's decision to distance himself from the British royal family and the subsequent controversies surrounding his life with Meghan Markle. Some individuals seem determined to complicate his life further, exemplified by the ongoing issue of security and who bears the cost when he visits the UK.

Historian Arnaldo Mera, specializing in monarchies, points out that in 2020, the couple lost police protection funded by the UK government. Despite Prince Harry's willingness to bear the expense independently, the Ministry of the Interior refuses to permit this. Consequently, Prince Harry has initiated a legal process seeking a judicial review of the measures in place to ensure his safety during visits to the UK, a case recently accepted by the High Court in London.

The specific request in this legal action is to review a decision made by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures in February 2020, which stipulated reduced protection for Prince Harry during visits to his home country. Complicating matters further is the government's support for this decision, emphasizing its inability to fund private police protection.

While Prince Harry manages security during his visits to other countries with a private security team in the United States, this team lacks jurisdiction abroad and access to British intelligence. The crux of the matter is Prince Harry's concern for the safety of his wife and children, as affirmed by his lawyers, who state that he is hesitant to travel with his children to the UK due to the lack of security.

It is noteworthy that Prince Harry, despite not being involved in any recklessness, still faces challenges in securing protection. Unlike some other members of the royal family, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not been implicated in any wrongdoing. Despite holding the titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex, their ability to maintain these titles rests with Parliament. Notably, Prince Harry's line of succession and his previous military service in Afghanistan are factors that underscore the importance of ensuring his family's safety.

In shedding light on the motivations behind this issue, historian Arnaldo Mera suggests that it may be driven by a sense of revenge within the royal circle. He posits that those who influence decisions may not necessarily be members of the royal family but rather their employees who exhibit an extreme loyalty, perhaps exceeding that of the royal family itself.
