Long before Leonardo DiCaprio became synonymous with Jack in the iconic film "Titanic," other actors were in contention for the role.
Jeremy Sisto, one such contender, recently shared insights about his near casting and the impact it had on him, almost two decades after the movie's release.
In a surprising revelation, Sisto, currently promoting his involvement in the series "The Returned," disclosed that he had recorded a camera test for the role of Jack alongside Kate Winslet, who eventually secured the part of Rose.
The footage, now part of the film's official DVD, bears witness to the audition process that ultimately shaped cinematic history.
Reflecting on the missed opportunity, Sisto admitted, "(Titanic) was one of the many, many jobs I didn't get... but it's always nice to see a movie that in a parallel universe you would have (starred in)." He further acknowledged the bittersweet aspect of the situation, expressing, "It's a little embarrassing to reveal this flaw, but I wouldn't have wanted it to happen. Titanic fans will be deprived of (Leonardo DiCaprio's performance)."
During an interview with "Huffington Post," Sisto recounted the reading he had done with Kate Winslet during the audition process. "I read (the script) with Kate, as well as three other actresses. I was so inspired for that role... it broke my heart a little that I didn't get the part," he shared, revealing the emotional impact of missing out on such a significant role.
Despite the setback, Jeremy Sisto found success in another '90s classic, "Clueless," where he starred alongside Alicia Silverstone. Reflecting on that period, Sisto disclosed concerns about the potential aftermath of success, stating, "I worry about having to stop acting. I was very afraid of what would happen next. But I feel very proud to have been part of a film that was so important for the youth of so many people."
