Jodie Foster Reveals Turning Down Princess Leia Role in 'Star Wars'

During an appearance on The Tonight Show hosted by Jimmy Fallon, Foster confirmed rumors circulating on the Internet about the prospect of her portraying Princess Leia in the iconic Star Wars saga. She explained that although she had the chance, a conflict arose as she was already committed to a Disney movie, and she didn't want to breach her existing contract.

Born in November 1962, Jodie Foster was around 13 to 14 years old when the filming for Star Wars IV: A New Hope took place. At the time of the film's release, she was about to turn 15. The role ultimately went to Carrie Fisher, who was 19 years old during the filming of A New Hope and continued to portray Princess Leia in subsequent Star Wars films.

Foster praised Fisher's exceptional work in the role, expressing uncertainty about how it would have turned out if she had taken on the character, suggesting humorous possibilities like opting for a different hairstyle.

Jodie Foster, also known as Alicia Christian Foster, is an acclaimed American film actress and director. With two Golden Globes and two Oscars to her name, Foster is recognized as one of the most prominent actresses of her generation.

Her notable roles include performances in films such as Taxi Driver, The Silence of the Lambs, Crazy Friday, Flight Plan, Brave, The Perfect Plan, Accused, Panic Room, Losing the Past, Anna and the King, and Contact, among others.
