As the first images of 'Spencer' are released, Magazine takes a look at everything we know so far about the biopic of Diana, Princess of Wales to date.

Who will star in 'Spencer'?

Following Emma Corrin's immaculate turn in the fourth season of The Crown, American actress Kristen Stewart takes on the role of Diana, with filmmaker Pablo Larraín directing her role. Among her previous critically acclaimed biopics? Both Jackie (2016) and Neruda (2016). On January 27, the studio released the first image of Stewart in character, looking eerily similar to the late princess. However, the studio has not yet revealed casting details for other members of the royal family.

What is 'Spencer' about?

'Spencer' will take place during a Christmas holiday at Sandringham in the 1990s, when Diana decided to end her marriage to Prince Charles, with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight writing the script. 'It's very contained,' Larraín previously told Deadline about the story. 'They spent Christmas there for many years and that's where we set the movie in the early '90s, around 1992, we're not specific. It's Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day... We come to understand what he wants and what he will do.'

Larraín adds that the eventual divorce of Charles and Diana and the tragic death of the princess will not be part of the story. 'She died years after where our story takes place, so we don't deal with that,' he says. 'It's just three days of her life and in that small period of time, you can get into a bigger picture of who she was. We all know the fate of her... and we don't need to go there.'

Another key focus of the drama? Diana's bond with her children, Princes William and Harry. 'The key is how she discovers during the process of the film that what she really needs to do is be who she wants to be,' says Larraín. 'And by that, it doesn't mean that she needs to be by anyone's side, be a part of anything, except her and her own children. Diana was many things, but the main one of them, she was a great mother.'
