Prince Harry is anticipated to return to the UK shortly following the announcement by his sister-in-law, the Princess of Wales, revealing her diagnosis with cancer.
While many may have hoped this tragic news could potentially facilitate a path to reconciliation between the estranged Duke of Sussex and his elder brother, Prince William, sources close to the royal family suggest otherwise.
Prior to Princess Katherine's announcement of her cancer diagnosis, a spokesperson for the Sussexes indicated that Prince Harry is slated to attend a service at St. Paul's Cathedral marking the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games in May. Following his unsuccessful legal battle over police protection in the country, it seems improbable that he will be accompanied by his wife, Meghan Markle, during his return.
Presently, Harry is planning to fly back to England in early April to visit Princess Katherine. The visit is expected to be brief, spanning two days, yet he is requesting security arrangements from the palace, along with complimentary accommodation. However, King Charles has not yet sanctioned this proposal, as William opposes granting access to Harry, whom he views as a traitor. Insiders disclose that Harry has frequently disparaged Catherine to his Sussex Squad, expressing resentment toward his family for not acceding to his demands.
The royal family has maintained a stance of non-cooperation, with Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace, Windsor, and possibly Sandringham, Balmoral, Hrove, and Sandringham, issuing statements indicating no desire for assistance from the Sussexes. Despite this, both Meghan and Harry cling to the hope that they might eventually be invited back to serve as working royals on their own terms. However, this prospect appears to be dwindling rapidly, especially considering the diminished number of senior royal members at present. Palace sources suggest that Meghan and Harry are deluding themselves if they anticipate a return invitation, particularly amidst the current tumult within the British royal family.
Should the need for assistance arise, there are numerous qualified family members available, and even Sarah Ferguson (Fergy) would be preferred over Harry and Meghan. Given their past actions and statements, the idea of their return seems unfathomable to many. Meghan, in particular, has been vocal about her disdain for royal duties and is perceived as unsuitable for a life of service. Her preference for glamour and recognition without the accompanying responsibilities is evident.
Additionally, her demeanor, described as rough, rude, and abrasive, makes her incompatible with the expectations of royal conduct. Both William and Charles are steadfast in their resolve to keep Meghan at a distance, signaling that any possibility of her and Harry's return to royal duties is effectively extinguished.
