Meghan Markle and Prince Harry found themselves seething with fury when their requests preceding a significant Royal event were promptly disregarded by the palace, as per a royal author.
The late Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Platinum Jubilee in June 2022, commemorating an extraordinary 70 years on the throne. An acclaimed Royal biographer suggests that it was the recent Netflix deal that spurred the couple to make demands regarding their involvement in the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Detailing this in his book "Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors," the author explains how the Sussexes felt slighted when the palace turned down all their requests for the Jubilee weekend.
Despite their festering fury, the couple flew to the Netherlands for the Invictus Games in April 2022. However, their frustration simmered as the palace refused all their demands for a prominent role at the Jubilee. Seeking a compromise for their return to Britain with their children, the book elucidates Prince Charles' preference that, as private citizens, Harry and Meghan wouldn't partake in balcony appearances or royal carriage rides during the celebrations.
In an attempt to secure a more visible role during the festivities, Harry proposed visiting the Queen at Windsor. However, the monarch insisted he meet with his father, Charles, and Camilla first. Tensions reportedly ran high during their subsequent meeting with the Queen, with the issue of their appearance on the balcony remaining unresolved. Furthermore, stringent security measures were taken, with their entourage likely subjected to thorough searches for cameras, microphones, and other electronics.
Ultimately, Meghan and Harry maintained a low profile throughout the weekend, attending only the two main events: the Trooping the Colour parade and the National Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul's Cathedral. Their absence from the traditional balcony appearance during the parade was notable, given their status as nonworking members of the royal family.
Tom Bower also revealed the late Queen's reaction upon learning that Meghan wouldn't attend Prince Philip's funeral. This came at a challenging time for the royal family, following Harry and Meghan's explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, where they levied several allegations against the institution. The strained relations between Harry, Meghan, and the rest of the family heightened speculation about Meghan's attendance at the funeral.
Expecting their second child and facing pandemic restrictions, Meghan opted to remain in California while Harry traveled to London alone. According to Bower's account in "Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors," the Queen expressed relief at Meghan's absence, reportedly saying, "Thank goodness."
