The chronic illness suffered by Queen Letizia that forced her to do without this footwear

Queen Letizia always attracts attention by wearing spectacular outfits, however, she recently caused concern among her followers when they did not see her wearing her brand new high shoes, instead she opted to wear loafers, a decision that has surprised many.

However, behind this choice of more comfortable footwear hides an important medical reason that the queen has taken into account. On several occasions, we have seen the consort opt for flats, a choice that contrasts with her more usual high-heeled image, as in the case of a black blazer and trouser suit with vertical white stripes that she wore in the past.

The reason behind this preference for flat shoes lies in a medical condition suffered by the mother of Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía and which has led her to do without them. The condition she suffers from is known as chronic metatarsalgia in both feet, an inflammation in the metatarsal that can cause severe pain. This condition can be a consequence of constantly wearing high shoes that are too tight or inappropriate for her feet.

In addition to metatarsalgia, King Philip's wife also suffers from Morton's neuroma in her right foot, a condition that causes pain, numbness and a stinging sensation due to thickening of the tissue around the nerves in the toes.

Despite these medical conditions, Letizia has been seen on multiple occasions wearing high heels at various events, ignoring the recommendations of her doctor. Although wearing flat shoes and cushioned insoles can alleviate her symptoms, in more severe cases it could require additional treatments such as steroid injections or even surgery to resolve the problems in her feet.
