The actress Emma Stone has told in an interview the reason for having her stage name and she has confessed that she prefers to be called by her real name.
Emma Stone is experiencing one of the sweetest moments of her career. Thanks to her role in Poor Creatures, she won the Oscar for Best Actress, thus obtaining her second golden statuette.
The interpreter, after a few hectic months in which she has greatly appreciated the support of her husband and the rest of her family, is returning to the ring and giving interviews to talk about her multiple projects. In her latest, which she made with her co-star Nathan Fielder to talk about her series The Curse, she alluded to her real name.
Her name is actually Emily Jean Stone, but since the actors' union (SAG AFTRA) does not allow repeated names, the actress was forced to choose Emma at the beginning. In the middle of the interview, Fielder took a break to talk about the topic.
"Before I continue, I would like to say something. Her name is Emily, but her professional name is Emma, so when there are people who don't know her I end up calling her Emma. But I'm going to say Emily from now on," says the actor in the talk with THR.
"You can say Emma. You can say anyone," Stone responded. The interviewer then asked her if there is anyone in the industry who calls her by her real name.
"When I start getting to know them, the people who work with me do. It's just because my name was taken (by another SAG actress). A few years ago it affected me quite a bit. For some reason I thought, 'I can't do it anymore. Call me Emily 'Nathan calls me Em, which is easier,' the actress explained.
She has also been asked if it would bother her or say something to a fan if they called her Emily and not Emma, and she responded naturally: "No, no. That would be great. I would like to be Emily," acknowledges the actress, who has spent so many years under a name that is not his.
She chose Emma for a reason that she already told on the Jimmy Fallon show and that is that, when she was little, she loved Emma Lee Bunton from the Spice Girls. For that reason she decided to keep her last name and simply change Emily to Emma.
