Antonio Banderas talks about his projects in film and theater and claims the effort involved

The actor and director Antonio Banderas continues to fulfill professional dreams and defends musical theater and the effort that its staging implies for the performer, and regrets that in Spain "what is really worth" is not valued and it is difficult to carry out a show of this type.

The performer from Malaga, who in June will premiere Playing Our Song, his new musical as director, explains that these types of shows are "very complex" because "you have to be there every day and be in perfect shape."

He confesses that he tries to remain silent throughout the day when he participates as an actor in a musical to take care of his voice, because in the case of his productions "there are no pre-recorded recordings and the orchestras go live," he says in an interview with EFE. .

"Theatre is done the way I think it should be done," he points out, and insists that the actors' voices are always live and that "the orchestras are real and they are there with many musicians," which is why they are very expensive productions that "generally" do not report profits.

"We work directly at a loss because we are a non-profit company and, furthermore, without public money," says Banderas, who recalls that Playing our song is the fourth musical produced by the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank in Malaga, which he himself created.

In this regard, he points out that he has nothing against theatrical productions that receive public money, which he believes should exist, although at the Soho Theater they do not go "that way."

In Marbella, the city where his daughter Stella was born and to which he feels very connected, the actor talks about his professional projects and his more business profile, very focused on the hospitality industry, which has led him to open several restaurants in the province of Malaga. , the last of them in Marbella, where it has landed with the emblematic El Pimpi winery.

Thus, having already completed filming in New York for Babygirl, a film in which he co-starred with Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson under the tutelage of Dutch actress Halina Reijn, Banderas is once again focusing on the musical before the upcoming premiere of Playing Our Song, in poster in Soho between June 6 and 23.

Although he has films waiting for him, the Malaga actor clarifies, now he is directing "solely and exclusively."

This musical comedy, starring actors Miquel Fernández and María Adamuz, is based on a popular 1979 Broadway show, which narrates the relationship of a successful but romantically unsuccessful composer with an unknown lyricist hooked on her ex-boyfriend.
