Bower claims that Meghan, accustomed to the world of Californian high society and her recent entry into the British royal family, considered herself in a higher social position than Victoria. However, she was surprised to discover that the Beckhams possessed greater wealth and access to luxuries that she did not have.
One of the main factors contributing to the tension was economic inequality and the Duchess of Sussex felt uncomfortable realizing that she, despite her status as Duchess, could not compete with the immense wealth of The Beckhams. Victoria and David owned several properties, private jets and a life of luxury that Meghan wanted to achieve.
