Why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Children not want to Build Relation with Royal Cousins

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's children are unlikely to reunite with their royal cousins during the Sussex family's reported visit to the United Kingdom next month, according to royal commentators who believe ongoing family tensions and busy summer schedules make such a meeting highly improbable.

Although reports suggest that Prince Harry and Meghan will bring Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to Britain for the first time since 2022, experts say there is currently no indication that the children will spend time with Prince William and Princess Catherine's three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. While many royal watchers continue to hope for a family reunion, those familiar with the situation believe it would require significant planning, mutual agreement, and a noticeable improvement in relations between the two households.

Royal commentator Amanda Matta told Page Six that even if the relationship between the Sussexes and the Wales family is gradually improving behind the scenes, the Prince and Princess of Wales already have a packed summer schedule. Organizing a meeting between the cousins would involve careful coordination and goodwill from everyone involved, making such an encounter unlikely during this visit.

Matta also suggested that the strained relationship between Prince Harry and Prince William remains the biggest obstacle. She explained that years of public disagreements, combined with lingering tensions between Meghan Markle and Princess Catherine, continue to complicate any possibility of the families coming together. According to Matta, those unresolved personal issues would need to be addressed before plans involving the children could realistically move forward.

Royal correspondent Emily Nash shared a similar opinion, saying it is simply too early to predict whether the cousins will reunite. While she acknowledged that an unexpected meeting could happen if both families attended a larger royal gathering, she does not expect William and Harry to arrange time together solely because Harry is returning to Britain. Given the current state of their relationship, she believes such a reunion remains unlikely.

When asked whether the brothers hope their children will eventually build a relationship, Nash said that question is better left for the future. In her view, the most important issue remains repairing the relationship between William and Harry themselves. Until the two brothers are able to reconcile, any meaningful connection between their children is likely to remain on hold.

Despite the ongoing family rift, Nash believes both Harry and William would ultimately want their children to know one another. Like most families, she said, they would likely hope their children could enjoy the opportunity to grow up with their cousins and develop lasting family bonds, even if that goal cannot be achieved in the near future. 

Both Nash and Matta agreed that the chances of a reunion between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Prince and Princess of Wales remain slim, regardless of whether their children are present. The deep divisions that have existed within the family for several years continue to overshadow any hopes of a public reconciliation.

Nash, who also serves as editor of Hello! magazine, believes King Charles III is concentrating on rebuilding his own relationship with Prince Harry rather than attempting to mediate between his sons. She suggested that the King's priority is likely to be spending valuable time with Harry after a long period apart and, perhaps even more importantly, seeing his grandchildren Archie and Lilibet, whom he has rarely had the opportunity to visit.

Last week, Page Six reported that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle plan to travel to the UK with Archie and Lilibet next month, marking the children's first visit to Britain in several years. The trip is expected to include a reunion with King Charles III, offering the monarch another opportunity to strengthen ties with his youngest son's family.

According to a separate report from The US Sun, King Charles has reportedly extended an olive branch by inviting Harry and Meghan to stay at a royal residence during their visit. The report also claimed that the King offered assistance with security arrangements, an issue that has remained a source of dispute since Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and relocated to California.

Since leaving royal life, Meghan has returned to the United Kingdom only on a handful of occasions. Archie and Lilibet last visited Britain in June 2022 to attend Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee celebrations, where they reportedly spent limited time with members of the Royal Family. Meghan's most recent trip to the UK came later that year when she joined Harry for Queen Elizabeth II's state funeral in September 2022.

By that point, relations between the Sussexes and the Wales family had already become increasingly strained. The divide widened further after Harry and Meghan participated in a series of high-profile interviews discussing their experiences within the Royal Family. Harry's bestselling 2023 memoir, Spare, added to the controversy by revealing deeply personal accounts of disagreements involving several senior royals.

Although King Charles and Prince Harry also experienced a period of estrangement following the publication of Spare, recent reports suggest the monarch has been making efforts to rebuild communication with his youngest son. While a complete reconciliation across the Royal Family still appears distant, the upcoming UK visit could represent another small step toward improving family relationships, even if a long-awaited reunion between the royal cousins does not take place this time.
