José Ángel Llamas made his debut in the artistic medium at the end of the nineties when he starred in the successful telenovela "Nada personal" (1996), for his participation in it he received the nomination for revelation of the year at the ACE Awards granted by the Association of Chroniclers of Shows of New York and a special award, “El Sol de Oro”, for best leading actor in a telenovela in the same year.

In 1997 he participated in the play "Señora bourgeois wants young boy" by Alfonso Paso, for which he received recognition from the House of Culture of Irapuato, Guanajuato (Mexico).

In 1998 he was a guest actor in the telenovela "Too much heart". That same year he acted in the starring role of the telenovela "Tentaciones" and made the humorous program "Buenos para nada".
