Tom Cruise is one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood and this success is due, above all, to the fact that he is very committed to his characters. However, that caused him to get sick during one of his most famous films, to the point that he regretted filming it.
Although Anne Rice hated Tom Cruise in 'Interview with the Vampire', this actor's luck is good in most of his movies, except for the time he got sick from filming a scene that wasn't even action.
In several of those films, the New York-born actor performed his action scenes himself: climbing skyscrapers, jumping off buildings, piloting fighter jets and doing dangerous car chases.
But this Hollywood star also has her limits, as she found out during the filming of one of her classic movies: 'The Outsiders', where she shared credits with Patrick Swayze, Ralph Macchio, Rob Lowe, Matt Dillon and Diane Lane.
In an interview held on April 12, 2021 on 'The Graham Norton Show', Tom Cruise revealed some curious facts about his career in Hollywood, from its beginnings to his success with 'Mission: Impossible'.
He stated that he enjoys doing the stunt scenes in his movies to such an extent that he can't help but smile while he performs them; however, the directors have asked him not to do so in order not to break the continuity of the sequence.
In that same talk he recalled an unfortunate moment he experienced while acting in 'The Outsiders', where he worked under the direction of Francis Ford Coppola.
It all stemmed from a poor decision he made in the scene where his character, Steve Randle, was in the middle of an argument while gamely chewing on a piece of chocolate cake.
"I was working with Coppola and I was like, 'You know what? I'm going to have chocolate cake in the scene...it's part of the character, I'm going to have chocolate cake...'" Tom Cruise explained.
Unfortunately, that innocent choice tormented him almost immediately, since for various reasons the scene took longer than expected to be recorded.
"We ended up shooting this scene over three days and did like 100 takes of me eating chocolate cake, I had to keep eating it," he explained.
Tom Cruise assured that the first shots were pleasant, since the dessert tasted good, but by the end of the third day, so much chocolate was affecting his health.
"I was in a sugar shock, I was throwing up," the actor commented as he recalled that difficult moment.
The chocolate cake scene served to show that Tom Cruise is always willing to do anything to make his character stand out in a movie, even if it endangers his physical integrity or his health.
