Courteney Cox and David Arquette split

'Cougar Town' star Courteney Cox and her husband and colleague David Arquette have agreed to a "trial separation" but will remain married while they work out the reasons for their termination, the two said Monday.

"We remain best friends and responsible parents to our daughter and still love each other deeply," Cox and Arquette said in a joint statement released by their representatives.

The couple married in 1999 and have a daughter, Coco Riley Arquette, who was born in 2004.

Cox, 46, rose to fame with the television sitcom "Family Ties" in the late 1980s and was part of the cast of the hit sitcom "Friends." Her career has included several films and she is currently starring in the television sitcom 'Cougar Town'.

Arquette, 39, began acting in the 1990s and rose to prominence in Hollywood when he played bumbling assistant Dewey, opposite reporter Gale Weathers (Cox) in the hit horror film saga 'Scream.'

In the statement, Cox and Arquette maintain that their separation "goes back for some time. the reason for this separation is to better understand ourselves and the qualities we need in a couple and for our marriage," they added.
