Pop diva Madonna, 55, is the celebrity with the highest income in the world, according to the Forbes magazine list published this week, having earned an estimated amount of 93.5 million euros in the last year, mainly thanks to her tour. MDNA', but helped by its sales of clothing, fragrances and accessories.
Film director Steven Spielberg, who had a huge recent success with Lincoln, came in a distant second with earnings of €74 million as of June 2013. Much of the filmmaker's income came from his catalog of old films like E.T. .and Jurassic Park.
"Madonna's success, at 55, shows the incredible power of a successful career in music," said Forbes journalist Dorothy Pomerantz, noting that pop singer Lady Gaga, 27, has often been seen as an artist who evokes the career of the diva "The young star is emulating Madonna if it comes to ranking money," said Forbes, given that with her 60 million euros in earnings, mostly from her 'Born This Way Ball' tour, Lady Gaga is in 10th place on the list.
Forbes compiles its annual celebrity earnings list using data from agents, managers, producers, and other industry members. The figures do not reflect payments for taxes and agent fees or "the other expenses of being famous."
In third place there was a triple tie with income of 71 million euros between E.L. James, author of the Fifty Shades of Gray trilogy; radio star Howard Stern and television and music producer Simon Cowell.
Meanwhile, the queen of 'reality shows' and media mogul Oprah Winfrey fell in the Forbes ranking this year and came in thirteenth on the list with earnings of 57.5 million euros.
