After separating from Jonny Lee Miller in 1999, Angelina Jolie married actor Billy Bob Thornton in May 2000, whom she met while filming the movie 'Out of Control'. The passion lasted three years.
But between the couple, there has not been any kind of rancor. 15 years later, Thornton has nothing but fond memories of that relationship. "I see that time as a great moment, Angie is still a great friend of mine and she is a great person," the 62-year-old actor said on the HFPA In Conversation podcast, from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association this past Wednesday. "The movies that she makes of her are still things that are important to her...and whether they succeed or fail, she still does what she believes in, and I'll always respect her for that." Jolie was Thornton's fifth wife. She began her relationship with Brad Pitt in 2005 and they became one of the most envied couples in the world. They got married in 2014 and two years later the relationship ended. Thornton is currently married to Connie Angland.
The reason Jolie and Thornton didn't work out is that they "just had different lifestyles," the actor explained. "Hers is a global lifestyle and mine is agoraphobic. So, it's really the only reason we're probably not together yet, you know because we wanted a different path to a life that we wanted to take."
In addition to that, Thornton said that his relationship with the actress was "exaggerated" by the media, including the anecdote of the necklaces they wore carrying each other's blood. "They were something very simple," he explained. "''Hey, we're going to prick our finger with a pin and spread a little here, and when we're away from each other, we'll put the necklace on.' It was that easy, but when it came out in the press it sounded like we were wearing a bucket of blood around our necks."
Thorton seemed to have mixed memories of his time with Jolie during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2014, calling their marriage a "crazy period," acknowledging that he was never "proud of it." Jolie instead commented on the necklaces: "it was never a vial anyway... it was kind of romantic." Instead, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly in 2016, in the middle of a divorce from Pitt, she stated that she was "proud to have been his wife for a while."
Angelina is now shooting the second part of 'Maleficent', scheduled for 2020. Thornton, who has worked on the series 'Goliath' and 'Fargo', has just finished shooting 'A million little pieces' with Charlie Hunnam and Aaron Taylor-Johnson among others.
