"It would be terrifying to return"
From being a star in the movie mecca to being a regular at the independent cinema. While promoting his movie Pig, the actor reflected on his career.
Those who follow the path of Nicolas Cage know that there was a time when the actor came to star in big movies from movie studios to the point that several of his projects became blockbusters.
With time, the actor moved away from these stories and began to accept roles in independent films, which required him to move further and further away from that time that once saw him shine. Cage is aware of this and spoke about it.
While promoting Pig, a film in which he plays a man who sees himself returning to his past life after his pig is kidnapped, the interpreter spoke with Variety about his "escape from Hollywood."
“I feel that I have gone to my place and that I have left that small town that is the box office. I don't know exactly why Rob (his character of him) dropped out of stardom. It's never fully explained, and I like that about the movie. But in my case, I don't know if I want to go back and do another Disney movie. It would be terrifying. It's a completely different climate. There is a lot of fear, ”he said.
Also, he mentioned that stories outside of the big studios allow him to explore his creative freedom and get away from the pressure that comes with making a big-budget movie.
“When I kept making Jerry Bruckheimer movies one after the other, that was a lot of pressure. There were many funny moments, but at the same time, they told you: 'I have written this sentence. You have to say it this way. In independent films, you have more freedom to experiment and be fluid. There is less pressure and there is more oxygen in the room,” he added.
