The director did not dare to make a judgment about the film, but he did show that after viewing it he had been somewhat confused.
In 2020, Christopher Nolan released Tenet, an expected film that received strong questions after its release. As he has already accustomed us, the director from the United Kingdom enjoys creating parallel temporalities in his plots, questioning and challenging the notions of space, life, and time. This has made several of his films, The Origin, for example, leaves viewers perplexed but still achieves great success. This has not been the case with Tenet, which seems not to be up to Nolan's standards and has left more confusion than enjoyment.
It was Quentin Tarantino, an inveterate movie buff, who made reference to this film in an interview with ReelBlend. "I think I should see it again", were the words of the director of Perros de la Calle, who did not dare to make a judgment about the film but did show that after viewing it had been somewhat confused.
As a good movie buff, Tarantino knows that often a single viewing is not enough to appreciate a film in its entirety and this is what he experienced with Dunkirk, also by Nolan: "The first few times I had an interesting experience with it. The first "When I saw it, I don't know what I was thinking the first time. I was just dealing with the spectacle of it all. I couldn't deal with anything but the whole show."
Quentin has highlighted this film among his favorite films of the 2010s: "I liked the movie, but the spectacle almost made me numb from the experience. I don't think I felt anything emotional. It amazed me. But I didn't know what amazed me... It wasn't until the third time that I was able to see beyond the show and the people that the story is about. I was finally able to see through the trees," he said.
Facing the movies more than once allows him to draw finer conclusions from their technical and narrative aspects and that is the experience he has had with Dunkirk, therefore he is not closed to thinking that the same thing could happen with Tenet. The truth is that Nolan's most recent has a score of 7.4 on IMDb and it is a large-scale production, but it has not managed to capture the audience, especially because of the intricacy of its plot.
