Comedian Cedric the Entertainer made several jokes about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey earlier this year.
In the Emmy Awards, the host was the comedian Cedric the Entertainer, who did not miss the opportunity to mention the controversial interview that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex gave Oprah Winfrey in March to clarify the reasons for those who decided to leave the British monarchy.
“As great as The Crown is, it pales in comparison to the royal monarchy… 'Oh, I mean Oprah's interview with Prince Harry and Meghan. That was the real gossip, wasn't it?'.
"Meghan must be teasing that boy because he relinquished her throne faster than Eddie Murphy in Coming to America," the presenter joked at the start of the evening in his opening speech.
Although he did not go as far as Ricky Gervais, who managed to infuriate much of Hollywood with his scathing and overly candid comments at several Golden Globes galas, Cedric also dared to joke about one of the most delicate points of the conversation that the former protagonist of Suits had with her friend Oprah: the supposed concern of the royal family about the skin color that her eldest son Archie could inherit.
"They need little Archie! Prince Charles can't dance, who else is going to teach them how to use TikTok?" the comedian assured an audience full of stars, including some of the stars of the series The Crown, the drama that documents the reign of Elizabeth II and that was the big winner of the night, taking the seven awards for which it was nominated.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry themselves, indirectly, had also received a nomination in the Best Hosted Nonfiction Series category for their controversial interview, but lost out to winner Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy.
