Alec Baldwin's lawyer has confirmed that the Prosecutor's Office has dropped the involuntary manslaughter charges against the actor for the death of Halyna Hutchins on the set of 'Rust'.
The Prosecutor's Office withdrew the involuntary manslaughter charges against actor Alec Baldwin for the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the movie 'Rust', his lawyers reported to the magazine on Thursday.
"We are delighted with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin and encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident," attorneys Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro said in a statement.
Although there has been no confirmation from the Prosecutor's Office, the media expect the withdrawal of charges to be formalized in the next few hours.
This same Thursday, the production company of the film resumed filming of 'Rust' in Montana, 18 months after the fatal accident.
Hutchins died on October 21, 2021, from the gunshot wounds she suffered while Baldwin was rehearsing during the filming of 'Rust' in New Mexico (USA) with a weapon that should have been blank but was loaded.
The New Mexico State Attorney's Office filed two charges of involuntary manslaughter against the interpreter in January for the death of the cinematographer.
The person in charge of security protocol during the recording, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was also charged with involuntary manslaughter, while assistant director David Halls, who was in charge of delivering the weapon to Baldwin, accepted a misdemeanor charge in an agreement with the Prosecutor's Office
Last month, the film's producer and the New Mexico authorities reached an agreement whereby the company paid a fine of $100,000 for security flaws in the filming found in the investigation of the facts.
Baldwin has always denied any responsibility for the tragedy and Gutierrez-Reed has maintained that she verified that the cartridges with which she had loaded the revolver were blank cartridges.
