Marie Curie
She was a pioneer in the field of radioactivity and discovered two new elements: Polonium and Radium. She faced many hardships, such as poverty and health risks, but never gave up her passion for research. She was also generous and did not patent her method of isolating radium, making it available to other scientists. She achieved many firsts in her life: she was the first woman to become a professor at the University of Paris and the first person to win two Nobel Prizes, one with her husband Pierre Curie, and one by herself.
Hedy Lamarr
She was a glamorous Hollywood star who had a hidden talent for inventing. She loved chemistry and technology and learned from her father, whom she adored. She created many inventions, such as a device that turned water into Coca-Cola and a system that improved the speed of airplanes by studying birds and fish. Her most important invention was a communication system that used frequency hopping to prevent the jamming of radio signals. This system is the basis of modern technologies such as WIFI and Bluetooth.
Frida Kahlo
She was a Mexican artist who expressed her identity and emotions through her paintings. She challenged the norms of her time and became an icon of strong women. She painted about her personal life, such as her marriage to Diego Rivera, her health problems, and her political views. She used vibrant colors and folkloric elements to create her unique style. She was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.
Rosa Parks
She was an American activist who sparked a movement for civil rights by refusing to give up her seat on a bus to a white passenger. This act of defiance led to a boycott of buses in Montgomery and other protests against racial segregation and discrimination. She was honored by the US Congress as the “first lady of civil rights” and became a symbol of courage and dignity. Her birthday (February 4) and the day of her arrest (December 1) are celebrated as Rosa Parks Day in some states.
Valentina Tereshkova
She was a Soviet cosmonaut who made history by being the first woman to travel into space and the only one to do so solo. She flew on board the Vostok 6 in 1963 and spent three days orbiting the Earth. She was part of a study that showed that women had the same physical and mental abilities as men in space. After her space mission, she became a space engineer and a politician. She held various positions in the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
