Some names do not need a last name. Chick is one. Bertin, another. Jose María Martínez-Bordiú, Baron de Gotor, was one of the most popular figures in the media a few years ago: his parties in Ibiza (where he became a DJ at Pacha long before David Guetta took over), his links with the Franco family and Above all, his time at the Glam Hotel, where they discovered a tumor in his thymus gland, as he recently revealed. This Monday, it is possible that he will reveal some more secrets to Bertín Osborne in My House is Yours.

For those who don't know, the nickname Pocholo comes to him almost from his cradle, as he explained to Albert Espinosa a few days ago in a program with a name and theme similar to that of the Jerez native: The Road Home. As he explained, his mother (Clotilde Bassó y Roviralta) contracted hepatitis and transmitted it to him during the pregnancy: "I was born seven months old and at that time a man had to go and ask other mothers for milk because there was no milk powder or anything, "he told the program. "It's little, it's little … Pocholo, nobody has taken it from me".

Although we had forgotten him, the presence of his nephew Bosco Martínez-Bordiú in the reality show Survivors has brought him back to current news. In fact, a couple of weeks ago, Pocholo himself appeared at the Telecinco program with a jump from the included helicopter. Before that, he had thrown food at the contestants. "Uncle Pocho?" His nephew asked him loudly, doubting if it was him before jumping into the water. With Pocholo, how could it be otherwise, the (literal) party arrived? Los Survivientes danced to the tune of a Garífuna music band while the uncle's popularity rose again like the foam of Cayos Cochinos.

Why Pocholo has a life that he gives for a movie

At sixty years old, Pocholo's biography is suitable for a documentary, film, or series with several seasons because he has everything: the nephew of Cristóbal Martínez-Bordiú (Francisco Franco's son-in-law) is the first son of José María Martínez-Bordiú, XVII Baron de Gotor, and the aforementioned Clotilde Bassó y Roviralta. His baptismal godfather was the famous right-hander Luis Miguel Dominguín, father of Miguel Bosé.

He studied marketing and finance in Switzerland and the United States. He lived for a season on the other side of the pond and combined his work at the Intercontinental Bank of Miami with some work as a model and actor. Until one day he had a revelation and his life turned towards what would later make him famous: Ibiza, the night, and the party. "I decided to come to Spain. Being locked in an office was not my thing. He wanted to be rich in time rather than money. I went to Ibiza and dedicated myself to the night", he explained some time ago.

It was on the Balearic island where he met the only woman who up to now has managed to lead him to the altar: Sonsoles Suárez. Pocholo was then thirty years old and the third daughter of former President Adolfo was 24. The wedding took place at the Monasterio de Piedra, in Zaragoza.

How was the wedding of Pocholo Martínez-Bordiú and Sonsoles Suárez Illana

The Pocholo and Sonsole's bodon was one of the events of that year, and 1992 gave a lot. There were 650 guests and Adolfo Suárez was in charge of attending to the media a couple of hours before the link. Among the witnesses, were Gonzalo de Borbón, Bibí de Samaranch, and the actress Maribel Verdú.

Among the guests, it was possible to see General Manuel Gutiérrez Mellado and his wife, and the politician Leopoldo Calvo Sotelo or the journalists Jesús de Polanco and Rafael Ansón. That was in addition to the family, of course, except Carmen Martínez-Bordiú, who was the great absentee. The banquet was held in Nuévalos, near the Monastery.

Sonsoles, blonde and blue-eyed, wore a princess-cut wedding dress with a bardot neck that had been designed by her new sister-in-law, Cuca Martínez-Bordiú. The dress was accompanied by earrings and a long pearl necklace. She wore her hair loose, decorated with white flowers. Her boyfriend wore an elegant morning suit with a Mao collar shirt and black trim.

That September 12, everything was joy, laughter, and photos, but the marital hangover only lasted two years. Pocholo himself told Bertín (it is not the first time they have sat in front of the cameras) in an interview a few years ago: "Sonsoles Suárez has been and will be the woman of my life. I would have liked to have children with her », he said then while revealing that he had loved her very much and that they got along very well. He also revealed then the reasons for her divorce.

"I fell madly in love with Sonsoles. We loved each other and we got married, but sometimes you start to live and love at the same time and when that happens the issue gets complicated, "she said. "I went to live in Buenos Aires because I had the idea of starting a car washing machine business, but I lacked part of the money and I didn't want to ask anyone for it. Then my father took a farm that had some horses there, I took my veterinary degree and we lived there. In that life, on the other side of the ocean, he was isolated from everything and everyone. The nearest civilization was 50 kilometers away and his wife could not stand this new life. The relationship broke down and Pocholo continued to make his way alone.

Pocholo, from the party to the bars: his time in a Latin American prison

As we said, it is not the first time that Pocholo and Bertín have seen each other. Martínez-Bordiú already sat in My house is yours in 2018. Then he told the Jerez man who was about to die in childbirth, that the Malaga town of Marbella was his favorite vacation spot (and everyone thought it was Ibiza). and that he began to study Veterinary Medicine. He also commented that he had thrown the cane at Mariló Montero, with whom he shared the program.

He gave up excesses a long time ago ("I don't drink alcohol anymore and I've stopped partying," he commented in an interview for The World), although there was a time when that dissolute life got him into some trouble. Cayetano Martínez de Irujo recounted in his autobiographical book De Cayetana a Cayetano the nights they burned together: "My partner in those five years of madness was Pocholo Martínez Bordiú. We were inseparable. There were more friends, but the night owls were the funniest. We ended up in an after-hours, we moved with three groups of girls, we didn't even know where we woke up, it was crazy," the book read.

At the end of the eighties, Pocholo spent four months in the Las Rosas prison in Uruguay, convicted of drug trafficking and consumption. For a time he also dedicated himself to selling amulets, and sarongs on the beach and organizing parties. His relationship with the family of Ricardo Urgell, the soul of Pacha. In fact, the father of the most famous nightclub in the world (with permission from Studio 54) considers him one more son. Ibiza has been his refuge and his home, and Bertín has gone there to chat with the man attached to a backpack.
