Jennifer Lawrence's testimony and that of other women who have rebelled against 'body shaming'
She became known through various television productions and came to the big screen giving life to Mystique in X-Men: First Class, but it was her role as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games that catapulted her to fame.
Jennifer Lawrence has recently confessed the demands that she suffered from her about her weight and the great dilemma she had to face after passing the casting.
"I remember the most important conversation was: 'How much weight are you willing to lose?'" the actress explained to Viola Davis in an interview for Variety magazine's 'Actors on Actors series.
The dilemma arose due to the situation that her character faces in the first film: a life-and-death competition in which she must fight to survive while she tries not to starve. The executives responsible for the film, therefore, largely considered it important that the appearance of the actress be consistent with what was reported in the books.
Jennifer Lawrence against weight demands
However, the actress refused to follow any type of diet to lose weight. Jennifer knew the magnitude of the books' fame and knew that they appealed to a largely youthful audience. "I didn't want all the girls who were going to dress up as Katniss to feel like they couldn't do it because they didn't fit in with a specific weight.
And I couldn't let that affect me too," explained the actress, who on more than one occasion has confessed that she doesn't follow any diet or change her weight due to script requirements. "I don't diet, I exercise! You can't train if you're hungry, right?" She clarified in another interview.
In fact, the only role for which she confesses to having been hungry is that of the former dancer Dominika Egorova in Red Sparrow, and even at that time, she did not. As she confessed, she had a very difficult time working, but she was able to maintain the strict diet required. She was hungry and she "drove me crazy" after eating just "five plantain chips."
