Rachel Zegler, a 20-year-old Colombian-American actress, will be in charge of giving life to one of the most mythical Disney princesses of all in the next live-action version of her. Like what happened with Halle Bailey and "The Little Mermaid", many tweeters criticized the choice of an actress who physically "does not represent" the figure of the original versions.
Disney surprised half the world again with the decision it made regarding the protagonist of the next live-action reissue of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", one of the founding films of the production company.
And with almost the same level of controversy that generated the announcement of Halle Bailey as Ariel in the reissue of "The Little Mermaid" -being the first black actress to take on this role-, the "House of Mouse" chose the Colombian-American actress Rachel Zegler to play Snow White.
Thus, Zegler will be the first Disney princess of Latin origin in the history of the production company, for this film that will begin shooting sometime in 2022. Although she is a relatively unknown actress for the medium, one of her first appearances will soon be released stars: the remake of the musical West Side Story, directed by Steven Spielberg.
However, racial and xenophobic hatred is still present in our society and many Disney purists came out to criticize Zegler's choice, saying that Snow White is historically white and that a Latina woman does not do her character justice.
For the same reason, the actress responded to all her detractors with a tweet that she deleted shortly after her publication, which stated: “Yes, I am Snow White. No, I am not going to bleach my skin for the character, ”she clarified.
Let's remember that in the original tale of the Grimm brothers, Snow White is described as "the most beautiful of all, with skin as white as snow." That was the argument of various detractors of Zegler affirmed, who asked for respect for the original story.
When the 20-year-old actress was announced in this new role, she took to Twitter to say it was a "dream come true" as she has been a fan of Disney princesses since she was little. In fact, shortly after she published a series of images of her next to the figure of Snow White in the Walt Disney theme park, located in Orlando (Florida, USA). The young woman accompanies the photo with the comment: "Friend, we have A LOT to catch up on."
As for the tape itself, its shooting will begin in 2022 as we mentioned before; Disney promised to expand on the original film's story and music. The roles of the queen and the prince are yet to be seen, while Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, two well-known musical soundtracks, will be in charge of giving the film sound.
