Al Pacino's incredible anecdote about the Oscars

Al Pacino is an actor who from his first roles in the cinema knew how to give performances worthy of praise. And it is that a large part of his filmography has gone down in history for the characters and interpretations he gave. The Godfather trilogy, Scarface, Serpico, Fire Against Fire, and The Devil's Advocate are just some of his most remembered films.

And thanks to his excellent work, the 82-year-old actor has earned a total of nine Oscar nominations. The first of these came in 1973 when he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Michael Corleone in The Godfather. And from 1974 to 1976, he was nominated three times for Best Actor.

And it was precisely in 1974 that Al Pacino starred in a fun moment at the Academy Awards. At that time, he was nominated in the Best Actor category for his work in Serpico and along with him were also nominated Jack Lemmon (Save the Tiger), Jack Nicholson (Last Duty), Marlon Brando (Last Tango in Paris) and Robert Redford (The Coup).

Al Pacino revealed that at the Oscars he was sitting next to Diane Keaton and Jeff Bridges. “Nobody expected me to go. And I was a little high," the actor revealed during an interview. "Someone had done something to my hair, shake it or something, and it looked like I had a bird's nest on my head, a mess."

Later, he went on to reveal that he was very nervous and that his bad face was due to that because when he is nervous he tries to look indifferent. “At one point I turned to Jeff Bridges and said, 'It looks like we're not going to make it to the Best Actor Award,' and he looked at me strangely and asked why. "It's over, the hour has passed," I told him to which he replied that it lasted three hours, "revealed Al Pacino.

“I thought it was a one-hour TV one-hour you believe it?” he added between laughs. “I really wanted to go to the bathroom so I took a Valium. Actually, I was eating the Valiums like they were candy. Finally, Best Actor arrived, can you imagine the conditions I was in? He couldn't have made it to the stage. He was praying 'Please don't be me, please' and then Jack Lemmon heard. He was so happy that I didn't have to get up because he would never have made it” he finished.

The Best Actor category was presented by Gregory Peck and Liza Minnelli, and although in the video you can see Al Pacino very calm, the truth is that inside he was terrified of being discovered. Luckily, when the actor finally got said award in 1993 for his work in Perfume of a Woman, he did make it to the stage where he was greeted with a standing ovation and where he gave a speech he had previously prepared.
