Amy Schumer confesses that she was the first chosen for Barbie

Long before, years before Margot Robbie knew that she would be the new Barbie in Greta Gerwig's film and that she and her partner, Noah Baumbach, would be in charge of the script, Sony Pictures and Mattel had already put the first to make this film but with other protagonists.

In 2016, when the producer had already closed the rights agreement, Amy Schumer was chosen to play the iconic doll, in a film that was based on an idea and script by Hilary Winston. The actress had accepted the proposal, but she proposed, together with her sister Kim Caramele, a rewrite of the script with some changes that she considered necessary.

Not even a year passed before it was Schumer herself who declared "Unfortunately, I am no longer part of Barbie's team due to scheduling problems," she anticipated in a note she sent to Variety. I am very discouraged, but I hope to see Barbie on the big screen," she closed at the time.

Obviously, the scheduling problem was just an excuse, since today Amy admitted that the reason for her departure was "creative differences" with the heads of the project, who did not accept the actress's proposals. Far from resenting the outcome of her film, Schumer is nonetheless enthusiastic about Gerwig's version.

"I'm looking forward to seeing the movie, it looks amazing. At the time I said scheduling issues, but really it was just creative issues. But when there's a new team behind, that seems to be feminist and interesting, so I'll be watching the movie," Amy told her interviewer, Andy Cohen.

She had already admitted last year that Sony "didn't want to do it the way I wanted to do it, that in the end, it was the only way I was going to do it." In the end, the project ended up in the hands of Warner Bros., the role of Barbie went to Margot Robbie, who acquired the rights through Mattel, and then the project was finished with writer Noah Baumbach and director Greta. Gerwig, who carried out the film that will be released on July 21 in theaters.
