A few months ago, the protagonist of Merlina became a topic of conversation after a series of accusations against him came to light on social networks.
In January, almost two months after the premiere of Merlina on Netflix, the world was shocked after it was revealed on social networks that one of its protagonists, Percy Hynes White, had received an accusation of harassment of minors, sexual abuse and comments of racism and homophobia. Quickly, criticism of the actor was not long in coming and he underwent a few long months of silence.
Percy is in charge of interpreting Xavier Thorpe in the fiction created by Tim Burton, and his role was quite important since he is one of the love interests of Jenna Ortega's character. And since the accusations came to light, the actor disappeared from social networks, to the point that there have been no updates on his Instagram account since January 18, the day before the whole scandal broke out.
The accusation arose from a Twitter user, who began posting messages recounting the bad experience she had with the 21-year-old actor, accusing him of posting explicit and disturbing images in groups where minors were present. In addition, she targeted him and his group of friends for S- harassing and abusing girls at parties.
Back then, and true to the times we live in, the hashtag #cancelpercy quickly became a trend on Twitter, and suspicions towards the actor increased after he did not speak out about it. Now, four months later, Percy Hynes White decided to break the silence and narrate his own version of it.
"Hello everyone. There is something I would like to clarify ”he began by saying in a text that he published on his Instagram stories. “Earlier this year, someone I've never met started a disinformation campaign about me online. Because of this, private information about my family was revealed and my friends have received death threats."
In addition, he added that photos of him being a minor were used and images of him in character were posted in a sense of generating hatred. “My friend Jane was falsely victimized, and her attempts to clarify things were ignored,” he added, clarifying that he had obtained Jane's permission to mention her in her statement.
“The rumors are false. I cannot accept being seen as intolerant or criminally negligent of other people's safety. These are the types of unfounded and hurtful claims that create mistrust toward victims. It is very distressing to know that this misinformation has let people down.”
Finally, Hynes White took the time to thank his fans for their support who defended him against this accusation. “The bullying of my family, friends, and co-workers has to stop, please.
Since then there have been no more comments from the interpreter, and the rest of his castmates have not said a word either. At the moment, Percy is still part of Merlina, which is in full pre-production of its second season, which is expected to arrive on Netflix in 2024.
