The actor, Robbie's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood co-star, said as much during an interview, although his colleague didn't like it
Long before the Barbie movie became a reality, perhaps even before Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach wrote the script, actress Margot Robbie was compared to the doll.
During a promotional interview, actor Brad Pitt told Robbie that she was "more like a Barbie." This comment was made in connection with an interview by Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the Quentin Tarantino film in which Robbie plays actress Sharon Tate.
At the comment of her colleague and her partner, she makes a clear gesture of disapproval, saying "No, not a Barbie" showing that her comparison had not been funny.
Of course, at that time the figure of the doll had more to do with a more feminine and delicate issue, something that is not bad per se but perhaps did not seem fair to the actress. It is precisely this point at which she wants to leave a mark on the film in which Margot starred: the redefinition of a doll that marked the lives of millions of people over several decades.
Let's remember that the actress has been so committed to the project that she also took on the role of producer, working side by side with Greta Gerwig, a director renowned for putting female characters at the forefront, giving her a lot of strength and personality. Perhaps this is something that Robbie herself supported in order for Barbie herself to be given this approach.
The film, at first, was going to be played by Amy Schumer. However, the actress decided to step aside because she had differences with the direction the production was taking, which later also ended up changing the production company (from Sony to Warner Bros.). From there, the project was left in the hands of Gerwig, who ended up forming the team we know today.
Will Margot Robbie regret responding so unenthusiastically to being compared to the doll? Considering how she worked on the film, she's sure to have something to say.
