Award-winning actress Grace Kelly became one of the first commoners to be queen. But, for this, she had to leave her work behind her.
If there is something that has marked the monarchy in recent years, it is that there are no longer only marriages between nobles. Many commoners have achieved aristocracy by marrying a prince, current king, or duke. And, of course, one of them is Grace Kelly, the renowned and award-winning Hollywood actress.
It was on May 6, 1955, when Grace Kelly recently ascended to the throne of Rainier III of Monaco at the Cannes Film Festival that year and she became engaged in 1956 and married that same year. And, although there was always speculation regarding the actress's marriage to the heir of Louis II that there was no true love between them, it was the actress herself who spoke about it at the time.
Grace Kelly was asked more than once if she regretted leaving cinema to become a monarch. But, she was the one who denied this theory and also spoke about her life in Monaco. "Life in Monaco is like living in a fish tank. Everyone can see every move you make. But that doesn't worry me. If you're honest and if you're sincere, living in a fish tank shouldn't embarrass you. And it doesn't happen to me," he admitted.
However, although Grace denied this, many of her biographers, after her tragic death in 1982, claimed that her marriage was arranged. Apparently, to clean up the king's image and turn him into a family man, especially amid the weak moment that he was having in his royal house, they were forced to marry him to an American actress.
In any case, the reality is that after Kelly's death, Rainier III never remarried. What's more, experts point out that he did not look for love again and that he decided to focus on his work to avoid any type of distraction.
