Actress Scarlett Johansson looked back on her career and revealed what was the worst moment she experienced at a festival.
The path to fame is not made of pure beautiful things, since she has bad passages that are even recorded not only in her own memory but in the collective memory. And taking a look back, Scarlett Johansson revealed what was the worst moment she experienced at a festival throughout her career.
The 38-year-old New York actress established herself in Hollywood as a young woman thanks to her well-polished foundation and a more than seductive appearance. Since her leading role in Lost in Translation at the age of 18, she focused on playing roles with a more adult background and managed to stand out.
However, she wasn't the sole presence in the world of cinema. Her modeling career allowed her to transcend boundaries. With her striking physique and captivating gaze, she became the face of major brands and graced the covers of prominent magazines. Yet, not everything was as glamorous as it seemed.
Scarlett Johansson ventured into the film industry with her role in "Under the Skin," directed by Jonathan Glazer, which premiered at the 2013 Venice International Film Festival. The anticipation surrounding the film was met with an unexpected response from the audience, shattering the high hopes.
Reflecting on that disheartening moment, the festival's artistic director, Alberto Barbera, revealed, "It was one of the most challenging screenings I've ever witnessed. It marked the only instance where the audience voiced their displeasure towards a film. Scarlett was nearly brought to tears."
The actress later recounted her experience the following year, describing how she felt during that uncomfortable moment. "It was my first time watching the film with an audience, and it was also the first time I saw the finished product. The screening took place in a vast auditorium, making me feel incredibly exposed. As the lights came on, I heard a mixture of applause and boos, both delivered with equal fervor. I didn't know how to react," she admitted. "I wouldn't say I was disturbed, but I was certainly taken aback."
The thing is that Under the Skin had moments in which Johansson, who played an alien who tries to go unnoticed among humans and takes advantage of the men of Glasgow, had to improvise through the gaps that the script left on purpose for her to function. Logically, the criticism has interested her a little more than her other works.
“I looked at Jonathan and he was delighted. Absolutely delighted. We left the theater and I was thinking, 'That was so weird,' and Jonathan was like, 'That was the best reaction! It was the most incredible sound I have ever heard in my life,'” recalled Scarlett, who after leaving the screening was restrained by Barbera. "I tried to tell him, 'Don't worry, eventually the film will be recognized.' And that's exactly what happened. Now it is a cult film,” said Alberto.
