The famous Italian actress Sophia Loren underwent surgery and remains hospitalized after suffering a severe fall at her home in Switzerland. A representative for the star confirmed that the accident occurred on Sunday when Loren was in the bathroom at her home in Geneva.
According to reports from Loren's entourage, the Italian actress suffered multiple fractures, including hip and femur fractures. Her representative added that they are waiting to see how her recovery progresses.
On Sunday, the Instagram account of Loren's restaurant chain also shared the news of her serious injuries. “Today, a fall at her home in Geneva caused Mrs. Loren to suffer a broken hip. After having been successfully operated on, she will now have to spend a short period of convalescence followed by a rehabilitation process,” they indicated in an official statement.
"Fortunately everything went well and Mrs. Loren will return to us very soon. The entire Sophia Loren restaurant team takes this opportunity to wish her a speedy recovery," they added in the statement.
Loren was scheduled to attend the opening of another of her restaurant outposts in Bari, Italy, on Tuesday, but all of her engagements were canceled following the accident she suffered.
The last public appearance of Loren, who is 89, was at the Armani show in Venice on September 2, held during the 80th Venice Film Festival.
The Italian actress received an honorary citizenship of the city on that occasion. Loren's sons, Carlo and Edoardo Ponti are by her side in the hospital and hope that she can recover as soon as possible.
