Steven Spielberg does not want to work with Tom Cruise again

There was a time when Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise knew how to form a hit-making duo. However, from one day to the next they stopped working together and here we tell you the reason.

Steven Spielberg does not want to work with Tom Cruise again

Steven Spielberg is probably one of the greatest filmmakers in the history of cinema. On the other hand, Tom Cruise is one of the most important and coveted actors in the industry. And the truth is that both knew how to take advantage of their reputations and that is how they joined forces to give life to some movie hits.

The first collaboration between the two came only in 2002, with the film Minority Report. Also known as Previous Judgment, it was a science fiction film starring Tom Cruise, Colin Farrell, Samantha Morton, and Max von Sydow, among others.

The film takes place in a dystopian future, in the year 2054, where a policeman, relies on premonitions and visions of the future to stop criminals. However, when someone predicts that he will commit a crime, he will have 36 hours to prove his innocence as he goes on a mission as a fugitive from justice.

Minority Report was a box office and critical success and became one of the best films of 2002. Its reception was so good that Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg did not hesitate to work together again. And that's how three years later, in 2005, The War of the Worlds arrived. It was based on the 1898 novel by H. G. Wells, which tells of the invasion of Earth by aliens and how a man must do everything possible to save his family amid chaos.

In the leading role was Tom Cruise and next to him were a little Dakota Fanning, Justin Chatwin, Tim Robbins, Miranda Otto, and Morgan Freeman as the narrator. The truth is that this film also became a great success and to this day, it is one of the most remembered titles of the actor's career.

Having made two hits together, everyone expected to see another project from the Cruise-Spielberg duo, and yet it never came. Even to this day, almost twenty years later, neither has spoken of the other again and Spielberg was in charge of revealing on one occasion that he would not work with Cruise again.

The truth is that Steven Spielberg does not want to work with the actor again and the reason would be due to a series of disagreements that occurred between the two. Although the relationship between the two was very good at first, it began to deteriorate on the set of The War of the Worlds. Apparently, the director did not like the actor's opinions and beliefs about Scientology very well.

However, the definitive trigger to end the relationship between the duo was the promotion of the film. Apparently, Tom Cruise hired his own sister to organize his advertising campaign but when it came time to do it, he did not fully cooperate. All this situation bothered Spielberg but the straw that broke the camel's back was the controversial interview that took place between Tom Cruise and Oprah Winfrey.

In it, the Top Gun actor was shown in a state of euphoria and madness that ended up staining not only his own career and reputation but also the film. This act infuriated the director, who felt completely embarrassed by the actions of the protagonist of his film. Furthermore, it is well known that both are people who like to be in control of what they do. While Spielberg does it from a more passionate place, Cruise does it because that's the way he is, so his personalities clash a bit on set.

After separating after The War of the Worlds, Tom Cruise continued working in the action genre while Spielberg continued to focus on science fiction. For the moment, they never worked together again or met publicly again, and after the filmmaker's statements, it is most likely that they will never do so again.
